Yoga

Yoga is a well-known natural therapy in the West, where many people view it as a form of gentle exercise that consists of body postures and breathing techniques with perhaps some meditation thrown in. However, in its purest Hindi form yoga is in fact a way of being that controls all aspects of life.

Meditation

Fundamentally meditation is about detaching from the world around you and reaching a state of deep relaxation and increased mental clarity. Depending on the context it is described in many ways, for example meditation could be a condition in which the mind focuses on a thought or an image, or an open receptiveness to whatever enters the mind, or a state of relaxed awareness, or a state in which the mind is “empty”.

T'ai Chi

T’ai Chi is another natural therapy that has its’ origins in traditional Chinese medicine, in that it aims to ensure a balanced flow of qi (life energy) through the body’s meridians. It is believed that an imbalance in qi causes illness, and t’ai chi is practised as a form of preventative therapy to prevent this.

Counselling

Choosing to receive counselling can be a very liberating experience and an excellent way of helping yourself. In a society where there is still a stigma attached to going to see a counsellor or psychotherapist, albeit gradually reducing, deciding to go down the path of helping yourself in this way is a courageous step but often one well worth it.
