Why should you provide on-site massage to employees?

They will help you get the most out of your staff by:

  • Improving employee health, for example by reducing stress levels.
  • Decreasing absence from work due to poor health.
  • Improving performance and productivity.
  • Motivating your staff and improving morale.
  • Reducing staff turnover.
  • Introducing a staff incentive/reward.
“The therapy days created a real buzz in the office and my staff loved them. This event had the highest take-up of all staff activities or events previously offered. Will definitely repeat - well worth the investment.”
MD, Vital Marketing Ltd

They will help to give a good impression of you as an employer, and therefore attract excellent new staff.

They will help improve your corporate reputation.

They can contribute to the benefits package you offer employees.

They can help you meet health and safety requirements in terms of duty of care towards employees.

How does massage achieve this?

Positive effects on employee health:

  1. Stress relief.
  2. Improved mental and emotional well-being, which helps with conditions such as anxiety and depression.
  3. Improved concentration.
  4. Lowers blood pressure and heart rate.
  5. Relief of chronic pain caused by conditions such as RSI, back pain.
  6. Relaxes tense tight muscles and removes knots.
  7. Reduces muscle fatigue by removing lactic acid.
  8. Increased blood flow to and from the area being massaged, which helps cell regeneration and removal of waste products and toxins.
  9. Increased flow of lymph away from area being massaged, which helps with removal of waste products, toxins, and excess fluid.
  10. Improves muscle tone (if done regularly).
  11. Improved skin condition.

Aside from the positive health benefits massage treatments are very enjoyable and will be greatly appreciated by employees.

The following table may help you make a decision as to which package to go for, depending on what you’re trying to achieve. For each factor the package that scores better is ticked. If they’re both ticked they rate about the same for that factor. This is simply comparing one package to the other and is not meant to indicate effectiveness in any other context.

Factor Pamper Day Short Treatment Session Notes
Employee health benefits
Shorter treatments will be less beneficial overall plus locating the chair in a public place may inhibit stress relief. Privacy is required to achieve full relaxation.
Cost effectiveness
The short treatment session is more immediately effective because more employees can be treated. However, loss of benefits relating to employee morale and health may negate this.
Employee morale
Work schedule disruption
Short treatment sessions don’t disrupt employee schedules as much as longer treatments.
Corporate reputation
Contribution to benefits package
Space requirements
The pamper day requires a room to be vacated for use as a treatment room. Short treatment session may require a more private space to be identified to position a massage chair.
