Best Practice and Existing Health Conditions

Before treating a new client I will always do a free consultation, where we gather information to ensure you get maximum benefit from your treatment(s). Part of this process involves checking that you don’t have any medical condition that either prohibits treatment or requires confirmation from your GP that you are safe to go ahead (this can be a note or verbal so long as you confirm and sign the consultation form). The following are conditions that will require confirmation from your GP: diabetes, liver disease, kidney disease, bowel disease, thrombosis, phlebitis, heart disease, high or low blood pressure (not medicated), cancer, epilepsy. I will also require confirmation from your GP if you have had an operation within the last 3 months. I’m providing you with this information so that if necessary you can obtain confirmation from your GP in advance and we can then proceed with your treatment.

Late Cancellations and Missed Appointments

Please note that should you wish to cancel/postpone an appointment within 24 hours of the treatment date/time, or fail to turn up for an appointment, you will be charged a late cancellation charge of half the cost of the treatment booked. If you fail to turn up for an appointment I will charge you the full cost of the treatment booked. I’m sure you understand that this is necessary as I lose income if not given enough notice, with notice I at least have a chance of filling the slot.

I will waive the cancellation fee if you have a genuine emergency or if you’re ill, say when the symptoms only show up the night before or the morning of the treatment.

Illness and Other Contraindications

Should you be unfortunate enough to be feeling ill on the day of the treatment, and especially if you've got a fever, it's not advisable that you have a massage treatment. As massage can be quite stimulating to some of the body systems, in particular circulation, it can make you feel worse. If you're suffering from a cold or flu it's best to operate the 3-day rule. That is, if it's less than 3 days since you first started experiencing symptoms then it's not advisable that you have a massage treatment. This minimises the chance of cross-infection. If you’re suffering from any other infectious illness, such as an infectious skin disorder affecting the whole body, then it will not be possible to proceed with a treatment until you’re sure you are no longer infectious. Other circumstances in which a treatment is not possible are an undiagnosed lump or swelling, or inoculations within the last 36 hours.
